GUNTIA

GUNTIA

1.

A town in Vindelicia, on the road leading from Campodunum to Augusta Vindelicorum. (Itin. Ant. p. 250; Orelli, Inscript. no. 2054.) It is identified with the modern Ober-Günzburg, near the sources of the river Güinz.

2.

Günz), a river in Vindelicia, and a tributary of the Danube; near its source the town of Guntia was situated. This river is not expressly mentioned by the ancients; but the town of the same name, and the expression, “Danubii transitus Guntiensis” (Eumen. Paneg. Const. 2), show that its name was known to them. [L.S]
